PEARLS Sessions

Each PEARLS session is conducted by the PEARLS counselor in the client’s home. The eight sessions of the PEARLS Program last 45-60 minutes each and take place at specific time points over six months.

At the PEARLS Training, participants will receive detailed instruction on the components of all PEARLS sessions. They will come away from training prepared to implement the entire PEARLS Program.

All sessions follow a similar structure that incorporates the three key components of the PEARLS Program: PST, social and physical activation, and pleasurable activity scheduling. The PHQ-9 is also administered at every PEARLS session.

Sessions 1 and 8 (the first and last sessions) are slightly different from Sessions 2-7. The first session focuses on establishing rapport and trust between the client and PEARLS counselor, as well as providing introductory information about what the client can expect during the PEARLS Program. The last session, on the other hand, focuses on consolidating the skills the client has learned during the PEARLS Program, transitioning the client to a self-directed approach to depression management and summarizing the client’s achievements.
