Evidence-Based Treatment for Depression
The PEARLS depression intervention is typically conducted over six to eight sessions in a six-month period and consists of problem solving treatment (PST), behavioral activation, and pleasant activities scheduling. Before regular counseling sessions can begin, a process of recruiting and screening prospective clients for depressive disorders must first take place. During the course of the PEARLS treatment, the counselor must pay attention to different ways of conducting sessions depending whether it is a first, middle or last session. Throughout the period during which sessions are conducted, there is ongoing clinical supervision on a weekly or biweekly basis.
